Green-fingered volunteers from Blackburn based EPSL Educational Printing helped to complete a mammoth makeover at Blackpool Zoo.

Packing up their trunks and saying goodbye to the office, the team travelled to Blackpool Zoo to assist with a few finishing touches ahead of the launch of Project Elephant Base Camp – the zoo’s new multi-million pound elephant facility.

After hearing their friends at the Zoo needed a little extra help getting everything perfect before the big reveal, volunteers donned their wellington boots, rolled up their sleeves and set to work planting hundreds of plants at the entrance of the new development.

Two teams dedicated a day each to the task, transforming the popular Dinosaur Safari, which forms the entrance to Project Elephant base Camp, into a green oasis.

Last summer EPSL Educational Printing joined forces with Blackpool Zoo to run a competition aimed at schools around the country and received hundreds of entries in the Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 categories.

David Pickering, Managing Director at EPSL Educational Printing said their ongoing partnership has come about due to a shared passion for education.

He said: “After hearing that our friends at Blackpool Zoo needed a helping hand putting the finishing touches to the area around the new development, we jumped at the chance to help out again.

“We share a passion for education with the zoo and their latest investment is a great way to teach children about the plight of the Asian elephant in the wild and promote the attraction’s on going support of the Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust. The team couldn’t wait to get stuck in and loved every minute.”

Blackpool Zoo revealed the incredible results of its largest ever investment on Saturday 24th March 2018.

Project Elephant Base Camp combines the UK's largest indoor elephant house with a huge outdoor habitat and an immersive themed visitor experience through Asia.

Jude Rothwell, Marketing and PR Coordinator said:  “Project Elephant Base Camp has taken years of planning and hard work and we are thrilled by how much support we have received from the wider community.

“EPSL Educational Printing did an amazing job, helping to plant hundreds of shrubs to ensure the new facility looked perfect for the big day.

“Our first weekend went really well and Project Elephant Base Camp is already proving to be a huge success with the visitors.”
