Jade Fry loves detective stories and is fed up when she has to stay with her Gran in the boring village of Little Melton for a week, where she wont be able to watch her favourite TV detective show.

But life at Grans is more exciting than Jade expects and she is soon swept up in an exciting adventure involving Grans pony, Captain. Captain has become important to Grans neighbour, a race horse trainer whose star horse, Smithy, is due to run in the Melton Chase next Saturday.

Without his friend Captain by his side Smithy wont get into the horse box. But it seems someone is determined to stop him competing when Captain disappearsCould it be Ron Heath, owner of a rival stables? Jade Fry turns detective and follows the trail to find out just what is going on
