The simple system works by making each pupil responsible for their pet (Barney) and it is their job to feed him daily by reading the words on his bones. Pupils also focus on spelling their words and applying them in context whilst constructing sentences.
The teachers' resource includes a wide range of word sets, from initial sounds and blends, to Primary Strategy recommended words and photocopiable images of bones for pupils to colour and decorate 'Barney's Box' (e.g. simple tissue box).
Also available to complement the Barney's Box Teachers' Resource is a stylish A4 folder, ideal for keeping all the pupils' work together. Inlcudes pupil booklet, handwriting practice paper and home/school communication letters.
