Britain in the 40s
Author: Hazel Bennett
Britain in the 40s includes four playscripts and is ideal for children studying Britain during World War II. Each play has a plot to engage the children's interest as they learn about the enormous disturbances which the war brought into people's lives, and shows how they coped with it all.
The book explores the experience of war through the eyes of evacuees, a young policeman coping with his city being blitzed, and a nurse serving her country abroad. The fourth play gives an insight into the feelings of British people who feared the changes as people came in boats from the Caribbean, as well as the anxieties of the people who came from overseas.
